THE
UMBRIAN MUG-July
1998
Greetings and Salutations!
Welcome to the sixth edition of the Umbrian Mug. If you know of a Duchy member who isn't getting the Umbrian Mug via mail or by picking up a copy personally at Fighter Practice, please let me know so that I can rectify that situation. Remember, the Mug is online too, available through the Duchy of Umbria web site at www.primenet.com/~cedrik.
Event Reports!
The Ducal Tourney was held on July 1st, due to the fact that the Crowns were scheduled to attend the Imperial Senate Meeting on the same weekend our Tourney is normally held.
We had both Combat and Arts Tourneys.
The Combat Tourney was run by Sir Cameron FitzCannon, our Minister of War & Joust.
The Sergeant's Shinai List was won by Ivan. This was, to my recollection, Ivan's first win.
The Sergeant's Renn List was won by Sire Squire Keara Craig. Again, another "first win."
The Knight's Renn List was won by Sire Sir Parrion Trimble, who defeated a visitor for the win.
The Ducal Prize for Most Entertaining Death was won by Lord Sir Iain Duncan Mackintosh. Remember, this prize is only won if someone out-performs Lord Sir Iain in a Death Scene at a Ducal Tourney.
The Arts Tourney was won by Her Royal Grace Lady Dame Diana, who won the Knight's List with a Masterwork and a perfect score of 30.
Canton Event Report
By Sire Squire Keara Craig
Good day My Lords, Ladies And Gentle Folk.. I was pleased to see all who participated in the hectic weekend's activities. I was so excited to see all the people that showed up out at The Pavilions for the opening night of "Mask of Zorro". We All had a wonderful time and the movie was pretty good too.
We had many Umbrians there, and just to mix things up a bit, a few people from HMR and, I believe, Avalon, came out to support our demo.
Waldham, you get a HUZZAH from me. That demo was great...
Due to the Imperial Senate Meeting and of course that darned mundania thing we had switched the Canton and Ducal tournaments.
So Saturday, July 18th, We had a short tourney. We had to combine combat lists to make one list and Sir Rashalok won Knight's Renn. Unfortunately there was not enough entries in the Arts to award a win but, I do understand that those that did enter will get their participation point and be able to re-enter at another date. Thank You to all those that did make it ... we had fun anyway.
Another long day in paradise it was too...
Later that evening we had yet another demo. The Vagabond Children's Theater Company in Goodyear was getting ready to perform their first ever production of a play that they themselves wrote.
The title was "Twilight's Quest" It was GREAT!!! We did some fighting demos prior to their performance. Sir Roland was even portrayed in the play as a, what do you call those people that wear the blue belts and spurs?...oh yeah, a KNIGHT. I was glad I made it. Thank You Sir Roland for inviting us.
We honor all participants of the Events with a resounding Huzzah! And speaking of Huzzahs
The July Ducal Tourney Winners: Ivan in Sergeants Shinai, Sire Squire Keara Craig in Sergeant's Renn and Sir Parrion Trimble for Knight's Renn. In the Arts Tourney, HRG Lady Dame Diana won the Knight's List with an entry that garnered a perfect score of 30 and a Masterwork.
Sir Rashalok, for winning the Knight's Renn List at the Canton Tourney.
All of the participants of the Events!
If I have missed anyone in any event, please contact me, and I will correct this in the next issue of the Umbrian Mug.

Message from the Steward...
There have been a couple of incidences in the past 6 months that I feel I need to address and explain at this time.
The Adrian Empire cannot and will not condone bad check writers. Know ye this, that if you write a bad check, you are responsible for covering the check and the service fees that result from that check. You will be given a 30 day grace period in which to settle your financial woe. At the end of those 30 days, if you have not settled up on your bad check, then your name will be turned over to the Imperial Steward for removal from the rolls as an active member of Adria. This means that anyone who bounces a check to the Duchy, and does not cover it, can expect to lose their position in the Game, regardless of who they are, and what level they are.
Another issue that has come to light lately is the situation regarding group memberships. Currently there are young adults who are being paid for as "additional members" on a group membership, when in fact they do not live at home with the parents any longer. If you are on your own, working a job and do not live at your parents' house, then you must become a member of Adria in your own right, paying the full (or discounted) price for a full membership. Upon striking out on your own, you will be given 30 days to settle this membership, otherwise you will be reported to the Imperial Steward for removal as an active member.
In addition to the situation about young adults, let me take this time to remind all of you exactly what is meant by a group membership according to the Membership Application Form of Adria.
A group is defined on the Form as (A) a cohabiting couple or (B) members who qualify as dependent of the Head of Household under IRS tax codes.
Cohabiting couples are easy to explain and define: "to live together as husband and wife, especially when not married," is what Webster's Dictionary says. This covers a couple who lives together, such as myself and Lord Sire Squire James the Red.
Dependents of a Head of Household refers to family members who still are counted on tax returns. This usually refers to children, and young adults who live at home and attend school.
If you live away from home, earn a paycheck, and have to file taxes for yourself, you cannot be an "additional member" of a group membership. If someone moves in with a couple, yet is not related, nor is claimed on that couple's taxes, he/she cannot be an "additional member". If 2 members become "roommates " they do not qualify for a group membership under these definitions.
If there are any questions regarding this policy, feel free to contact myself, Skye O'Malley, at any event, or via phone (314-4238) or e-mail (EROTIC_WITCH@prodigy.net)
