THE
UMBRIAN MUG-May/June
1998
Greetings and Salutations!
Welcome to the fourth edition of the Umbrian Mug. If you know of a Duchy member who isnt getting the Umbrian Mug via mail or by picking up a copy personally at Fighter Practice, please let me know so that I can rectify that situation. I have been running into problems with addresses, so I havent begun mailing copies of the Mug as of yet; however, I hope that in the near future I can rectify this situation, and get copies of the Mug in the mail to our members who dont make it to events for "hand delivery".
We owe a great deal to Sir Nikolai for making the long, arduous trip to our fair lands and making the day what it turned out to be. In addition to the wisdom Sir Nikolai brought with him, he provided the clearness for us to regain sight of the vision we hold for the dream. We can not offer enough gratitude for his effort. It is our sincere hope that Sir Nikolai will return to us soon and at that time will enjoy an Umbria enveloped in respect for all. We thank him, too, for gracing us with several bardics. One of them brought misty eyes to more than one who listened. This bardic told of Umbria, the region where we live, the region we all love. This man serves as Protector of the Dream and we must say that there are none who could do more justice to this most important quest. Again, our undying gratitude to Sir Nikolai Belski, Prince of Adria, Protector of the Dream.
We wish to offer a hearty huzzah to Sir Iain Duncan Mackintosh for investing the last six months of his life having been the best Duc he could possible have been. Sir Iain ran a war filled with interesting scenarios, which obviously required thought and preparation. There are no retirement titles for the positions of Duc or Duchess and so the memory of the retiring Crowns must only live in our thoughts. This Duc will certainly live in our memories. We look forward to his continued effort within our region.
Sir Duriel Caliban van Hansard was a most formidable combatant, as were his brave and honorable comrades. He, and his army, stood proud and tall. We look forward to embracing his ideas and concerns regarding our region and our growth. This Knight has much experience upon which we plan draw. We sincerely invite him to work with us to create a region admired and emulated by all who hear our name.
As it has been said, we have living in our region the most incredible artisans. These people of the populace invested countless hours on their projects. We are extremely impressed with every single artisan. We are left in awe of your cumulative knowledge. You all have so much to offer any who would wish to know more of your craft. We invite you to share yourselves with any who would wish to know more. To all the artisans, huzzah!
To all combatants we offer this: you are among the most impressive forces we have seen at any war, bar none. You all fought proudly and with bravery. On a day filled with emotion you all did a wonderful job remembering that you represent Umbria. You can be proud of you efforts.
It takes a multitude of people to make any region. Proportionately as many for a Duchy as for a kingdom. We offer a heart felt thank you to all who made the day and further create the dream we play. This includes not only the combatants and the artisans, but also the Marshals, the Judges, the Ministers, the List Mistress, and those who spent the effort to create the feeling of a medieval encampment. We understand that the effort behind the scenes was vast, indeed. We are positive we have not included all who invested something of themselves to create what will certainly be a day we will remember always.
In short, we thank you one and all for the days, weeks and months of effort you have invested. Your accomplishments have not gone without recognition by us.
We vow to serve all equally and fairly. We understand that each and every one of us has something to offer and look forward to dreaming with each and every one of you.
In Service to Umbria, Adria, and the Dream,
Lady Dame Diana Lockerby Lord Sir Angus McAllister
Duchess Elector of Umbria Duc Elector of Umbria
Event Reports!
We have been so very busy the past few months. So busy in fact, that your poor editor couldnt begin to write enough about the Events without creating a BOOK! So for this issue of the Mug, a simple listing of Tourney Winners will follow the description of the many Events we had.

The Ducal War was held on the 9th of May. Lord Sir Angus McAllister and Lady Dame Diana were victorious, and crowned the same day.
The May Ducal Tourney was held on the 16th of May.
We honor all participants of the Events with a resounding Huzzah! And speaking of Huzzahs .

The Ducal War Artisans with only part of the Arts actually judged, due to such a large turnout, the following were winners in their respective events: Magnus Sexton, Squire Grace Sexton, and HRG Lady Dame Diana Lockerby.
Marquis Lord Sir Cedrik, for his Masterwork award for his Knights Crafted entry of the Umbrian Pavilion. The List was not finished to see if he won, but he did receive the Masterwork.

Baroness Squire Squire Roawyn ORiley, for her Masterwork award for her May Ducal Tourney entry of a hand-carved walking stick. This is a fine piece of work, and well worth the award.
All of the participants of both the Arts and Combat Lists!
If I have missed anyone in any event, please contact me, and I will correct this in the next issue of the Mug.

Message from the Minister of Rolls...
The new Minister of Rolls, Magnus Sexton, would like to remind all that for your points to count, your points must be submitted in writing to him. The Ministers of War & Joust and Arts & Sciences must submit their Tourney Points forms for points to be awarded. All Estate holders must submit their Sire's Reports through their superior Estate. (i.e. House to Barony) Failure to do so will result in your Estate members not receiving their points! This is not a change, this is per Ducal practice. Additionally, as was instituted with Lady Dame Diana, all requests for copies of points records must be in writing, and allow 30 days for processing. Magnus will be doing all he can to help out - lets support him and get that information submitted!
